I'm nearly 23, and since I was like 5, I've had a computer used for games (Commodore 64 ftw). I'll never grow out of game.

As an original owner of Pong (not saying my direct age), I must ask, are we supposed to grow out of games or one of the ways we relax?

maybe they should reinvent classics like pong..nowdays games are becoming rather tedious at times..its the same old shit with better grapics..might pop down the 2nd hand shop and see if i can find C64 just for a break
gaming is suppose is down to the person but i for one prefer partying>>>games
i might post alot here but i generally dont finish work till midnight..games are the only thing to do except TV <~~tv sucks

That all depends on health and lifestyle and what the doctor says or your chiropractor. Then there is wife/husband or your girlfriend/boyfriend or your furry friend. It is all about priority.

sorry if this offended anyone it wasnt intetional im mearly expressing my thoughts i would like to hear the opinions on others about where we are expected to grow out of the whole gaming thing ??

"step away from games and grow up??" Now you're making video games sound like things only enjoyed by children, which I vastly disagree with. I view games as an escape from the dull monotony that sometimes comes with normal life. Many people get home from work/school and like to sit down and enjoy a game, whatever their preference may be, to relax/forget about any problems from work/school/etc. It's just another form of entertainment.

I find this discussion very interesting. The few times I have made the mistake of giving my age in games, the last few years.. Well let's just say I have met pleny of people who agree with this mentality that "OMG you should have a life and not be playing games anymore".
For the record, I'm now 38.
I grew up on video games. I was playing them before most of these people were born. So I am (frankly) a bit insulted when young newcomers to the genre try to tell me I don't belong.
To me, it's like any other form of entertainment. How many adults play board games, or cards? Etc, etc. Quite a few. And I'm sure there was a time when something was new and hip and "for kids", and many adults were playing, and catching grief from someone over it.
The only problem is video games are a relatively new entertainment gadget. But it's not by any means restricted to children. I would bet you that in the future it'll be quite common for games to be played by people of all walks of life and all age groups. Just as board games and cards are played now by people of all walks of life and age groups. It's a fun and relaxing way to entertain yourself, and there is no logical reason at all that it should only be "for kids". Especially considering how realisitc and mature the content of many games is becoming.. and how more and more often they are using games as simulations for training soldiers and stuff.

It would be nice to tear the discussion up in 2 different parts:
1. Should there be an agelimit to games and
2. Are games addictive
I'll just quote Whipslashr for #1: Where do those ppl of 14-24 find the nerve to tell us (25+) that we're too old to play a game? What's next? Will they tell us we got no business at the movies or that we should stop playing card games? The purpose of a game is to entertain you and keep you busy, and if I decide that my game is Guildwars, then there's no one that can stop me from playing it. A game is a game, I like playing cards as well (Bridge, Gin Rummy etc.) or even boardgames.
And if I can rant a little bit more... mr. Hidalgo should have spent more time in Grammar School instead of trying to tell us that we should stop playing games

Honestly the question is rediculous. All the kiddies think video games are some new thing. They have been around for over 30 years. I know 40+ year olds that I got to the bar with and throw beaucoup dollars into the Golden Tee machine. They are a form of entertainment just like movie or TV. Frankly, I'd rather play a game like GW which is a bunch of word problems strung together then watch the boob tube, or hit the bar. Actually lots if not most ppl arounds my age lets say late 20's, still play games. After all we started the video game craze. I had a Caleco Vision(Cabbage Patch Kids rulez, Atari, the FIRST nintendo, etc.) I've been a gamer for over 20 years. I see nothing wrong with playing video games. In fact I'd say this game is actually geared towards the first gamer generation. They have names like Blades Of Steel(First hockey game with fighting I believe and a sweet opening line), Death Blossom, the kappa's seem odly familiar.
up,down,up,down,left,right,left,right,b,a,start.(C ontra rules)
You're never to old, as long as you can play.

Why should anyone grow out of gaming? I started gaming on something called a "Pinball machine." I only knew one person in HS with a C64, and calculators were forbidden in class.
Most on-line games these days have elements that appeal to mature players. No-one here would blink at a group of 50+ year olds playing Bridge, or some other challenging table top game. Strategy, socializing, and creativity are all things that make both kinds of games appealing.
Heck, my mother bought a 4-wheeler last year. And she's going on 70!

I don't like games as a whole. Instead I find one game I like and leech on to it for a few years. Before Guild Wars I had Armored Core, which I played for hours each day finding new part combinations and such. After about 2 years it went online and the only two friends I had to play with lost interest. Mine soon followed. About two months after GW came out I saw it and thought 'hey, this looks ok..." then BAM I got hooked and here I am.
The only way I will grow out of videogames is if something forces me to do so (like loosing my hands)

I find this thread to be exceptionalling interesting. I am a 28 y.o. Respiratory Therapist, with a wife and 2 kids (2 and 4). Both my wife and i play, and our guild has at least 10 husband wife couples who play. With Small kids at home, in bed, and not being able to go out without a babysitter, Gaming is far better then TV. I don't see me stopping until I can't see the screen anymore.

I think there should be an age limit- 18+. (jk)
I remember when Pong came out too- I was about 5 and I was hooked. My dad loved it, too. He still plays an occasional console or computer game and he's now in his 60's. I'm 38 and don't play many console games (the controllers have like a bazillion buttons and toggles, lol) but I like to play a few computer games. There's not a whole lot else to do when I get off work at midnight.

Want fresh air? Open a damn window.
Golf won't burn much of any calories, and keeping up regular exercise regiment should ALWAYS be there whether you are playing video games or athletic games.

My guy and I live together and play GW most evenings after work to relax, save money and have fun together!
I also work out at the gym, see my friends, hang out with my cats, read a novel a week and everything else a 'normal' 27 year-old does.
Why is it that the people who get the most overheated about adult gamers are the ones who are in their mid-teens? I guess they will understand in a few years..... (^_^)
